Very Berry Green Smoothie

The very first green smoothie recipe I ever tried was this one, the very berry green smoothie– and it changed our lives. At that time, my husband and I were financially struggling as he transitioned to a new job as a pastor. We had no health insurance and our kids were at that age when all they did was pass colds back and forth (and they almost always turned into an ear infection).

We couldn’t afford for them to get sick, so I started researching “how to boost your immune system” and found out about green smoothies. This was the most affordable way I could find to get healthier.

With nothing to lose, I decided to give it a shot. Or should I say a blend? And we all loved this recipe so much we made it every day for months on end.

Berry Green Smoothie boosts immune system

For the past 7 years, we’ve drank green smoothies and never gotten sick enough to need antibiotics again. We use natural remedies to heal our body. The days of meds are so far over and it’s because we’re boosting our immune system and nourishing our bodies. Food truly is medicine!

Now my kids are tweens… and making their own smoothies.

Why a spinach green smoothie is great for all ages

Spinach is the most mild tasting leafy green out there. In other words… you won’t even taste it! Yet you’ll reap the health benefits of the vitamins A, C and K, magnesium, iron and manganese. That’s what we call “plant power!” If you’re interested in learning more about leafy greens for your smoothies, check out the leafy green guide.

Make this berry green smoothie without banana

This recipe uses 1 banana to add natural sweetness and a creamy texture. If you’re sensitive to banana or restricting your sugars, feel free to swap the banana for avocado to keep it creamy and pack in those nutrients.

Is a berry green smoothie keto friendly?

If you’re watching your carbs and trying to eat more keto, a berry green smoothie is a good way to go. Yet we have one that’s even better and tastes like a meal! Check out our Slow Carb Green Smoothie recipe that is packed with flavors, protein and healthy fats to make a great meal replacement.

How do you measure 1 cup spinach?

This berry green smoothie recipe calls for 1 cup of spinach. To help you out, a handful of spinach is close to 1 cup measure out. To speed up the blending process, feel free to measure your spinach by the handful rather than using a measuring cup. That’s how we roll, at Simple Green Smoothies.
