Brought to you in partnership with NRL League Stars.
There are few rules I have for life, and they’re pretty simple; Celebrations should always involve cake, top sheets on beds are overrated {gasp, sorry mum} and families should have a common passion and interest.
For us, it’s fishing {although to be really frank, and thank goodness the kids don’t read my blog, I’m less interested in actually catching the fish and more just hanging out by the water. I love when we don’t catch anything, because poor fishies!} and it’s also NRL.
My family has always been involved in the NRL, with a handful of my family members playing first grade and my young cousin who I believe will definitely do the same as he’s already representing Australia for it, but it was when I met Shane that I really got interested.
So interested that I’d go to games, and stand up and cheer. I know all the players of our team, year after year, and I know most of the rules. It’s fun to share the common interest, and support our beloved Roosters together {and yes, we all have jerseys!}.
Growing up, league was almost always a boys game. In high school I did get asked to play for our school team, I think they saw potential in my stocky size, I declined {I was a nerd, but wish I would have given it at least one go}. I love that now NRL is for everyone. I watched with pride as the girls NRL teams play some awesome games at the end of this season, and cheered on the Aussie girls in the World Rugby League Nines, with my own two girls sitting beside me.
Now there’s a way that kids can find their feet with league, in a no contact way, be active and have fun at the same time with League Stars. It’s an after school activity, located in spots all around Australia, and available for kids aged 5 to 12 years, and it doesn’t matter what skill level they’re at – newbies are totally welcome. We discovered the program a little too late this year, which we were devo about, but we’re totally in for next year. The girls are already working on their skills!
Best of all, when you sign up you get the coolest welcome kit, with ball, shirts, bag and other goodies. The kids get so excited about a goodie pack.
You can find a League Stars program near you, just search here.
In exciting news, I’ve got a giveaway for you. League Stars are giving one of my readers a free League Stars {up to 8 weeks} program at the location of the winner’s choice. All you have to do is leave a comment below, answering the following question: What’s your favourite thing to do as a family?
